StaxPing — Roadmap

← Back to StaxPing Index

Roadmap

StaxPing is an actively evolving project.
This roadmap outlines planned features, long‑term goals, and areas of exploration.
Items may shift as development progresses, but the direction remains focused on clarity, reliability, and unified diagnostics.

Advanced Flags (Planned)

Future versions of StaxPing will introduce additional flags to extend diagnostic depth and control.

Potential additions include:

  • module‑specific toggles
  • timeout and retry controls
  • output verbosity levels
  • JSON or machine‑readable output
  • selective module execution

These features will be introduced gradually to maintain StaxPing’s clean and predictable interface.

Extended Diagnostics

StaxPing aims to expand beyond the core DNS, ICMP, HTTP, and traceroute modules.

Possible future diagnostics:

  • TLS/SSL certificate checks
  • Port reachability tests
  • CDN or geo‑routing awareness
  • DNSSEC validation
  • HTTP header inspection
  • Multi‑target batch mode

All extended diagnostics will follow the same formatting and consistency principles as existing modules.

APT Repository

An official APT repository is planned to simplify installation and updates on Debian/Ubuntu systems.

Goals:

  • one‑line installation
  • automatic updates
  • stable release channel
  • optional testing channel

This will become available once packaging and versioning stabilize.

Windows Distribution

A standalone Windows .exe is planned as a major milestone.

Planned behavior:

  • no installer required
  • identical output formatting to Linux
  • capability detection adapted for Windows networking
  • config stored in %APPDATA%

Windows support will expand once Linux packaging reaches maturity.

Plugin System (Exploratory)

A plugin or extension system may be considered in the long term.

Possible capabilities:

  • custom diagnostics
  • organization‑specific checks
  • output format extensions
  • integration with monitoring tools

This is exploratory and not part of the near‑term roadmap.

Long‑Term Vision

StaxPing aims to become a unified, cross‑platform diagnostic tool that replaces the inconsistent mix of:

  • ping
  • dig
  • curl
  • traceroute

Long‑term goals include:

  • predictable behavior across all platforms
  • clean, aligned output suitable for automation
  • safe, async‑friendly internals
  • minimal configuration
  • strong fallbacks in restricted environments

StaxPing will continue to evolve while maintaining its core philosophy:
clarity, consistency, and reliability.
