StaxDash Licensing and Pricing Policy #
StaxDash is open source by default and commercial where it is sustainable. This policy is the single source of truth for how each product is licensed and monetized. Product pages may describe tiers, but this document defines the model.
Principles #
- The open core stays open. The terminal and desktop foundation tools (StaxSys, StaxPing2, the website) are MIT licensed and remain free, with no account and no cloud requirement.
- Commercial value sits on top. Hosted services, on-prem monitoring, support/SLA, and paid desktop modules are where StaxDash makes money.
- Honest about what is free. No bait-and-switch: a free tool either works fully or clearly documents the paid tier that adds to it.
- Per-project terms. Each commercial product carries its own license/terms (seeded by an EULA where proprietary). Nothing here grants rights in another product.

Pricing model (summary) #
- Free tier: the MIT core tools, fully functional on their own.
- Per-node / per-seat: StaxMonitor licenses and StaxLens subscriptions scale with the number of monitored hosts.
- Retention tiers: StaxLens hosted plans tier by data retention and the number of metrics/integrations.
- Desktop modules: StaxSuite sells individual modules (StaxMD, StaxWord, StaxCode, StaxKB) or a bundle, through StaxStore.
- Contracts and support: selected clients receive bespoke system tooling, monitoring integrations, and SLA-backed support.
Pricing figures, when public, are published on the website and not in the docs.
Enforcement and review #
- Every product’s README and DocsHub page states its license.
- New commercial products register in the StaxDash standards and in the
DocsHub
products.jsregistry. - This policy is revisited as products ship. Nothing retroactively changes a released license without notice.
